Maddie Gilsenan

Maddie Gilsenan is Australia’s first Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies Nurse Practitioner, appointed to the Children’s Cancer Centre at The Royal Children’s Hospital in 2019.  Maddie plays an integral role in the care of patients undergoing CAR T cell therapy, or haematopoietic stem cell transplant, with a focus on the early period post-discharge, through her nurse practitioner led outpatient clinics. She played a central role in the implementation of the first Australian paediatric Kymriah program, at RCH Melbourne and the co-development of the first Australian guidelines for the prescription of blood and blood products by Nurse Practitioners.

Maddie also has a special interest in patients with aplastic anaemia undergoing immunosuppression therapy, and bone marrow failure syndromes and the integration of the Nurse Practitioner role in the paediatric bone marrow failure care pathway.

Maddie is passionate about the expansion of the Nurse Practitioner role and mentoring nurses through the Nurse Practitioner trainee pathway.
