
On behalf of the Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision Centre of Research Excellence in Bone Marrow Biology, we are proud to announce that the 5th National Symposium on Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes will be held at the Queensland Children’s Hospital from 28-30 May 2027.
Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision is dedicated to advancing research and expanding knowledge to create better outcomes for patients and their families. This important event will bring together expert clinicians, scientists and allied health professionals to share the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment, patient care and clinical trials in Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.
Alongside scientific presentations and clinical case discussions, there will be valuable opportunities for networking, collaboration and knowledge exchange.

We are thrilled to announce that our 2027 National Symposium will feature two international keynote speakers:
Dr Emma Groarke, MB, FRCPath
Associate Research Physician, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland, USA

Dr. Emma Groarke graduated from University College Dublin in Ireland in 2011. She completed her postgraduate training in general internal medicine and hematology through the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland. She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, UK. In April 2019 she completed a fellowship in bone marrow failure at the National Institutes of Health and was subsequently appointed as staff. Currently, she is an associate research physician at the NIH where she runs trials in a number of areas including immune aplastic anemia, IBMFS, CHIP, IBMFS, MDS, and VEXAS.
Dr Suneet Agarwal, MD, PhD
Physician-scientist at the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, USA

Suneet Agarwal is a physician-scientist in the bone marrow failure and hematopoietic stem cell transplant programs in the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. He completed his Sc.B. in Biochemistry at Brown University followed by M.D. and Ph.D. with Anjana Rao at Harvard Medical School on epigenetic regulation of T cell effector function. He undertook pediatrics residency training in the Boston Combined Residency Program, followed by a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s, where he served as Chief Fellow. He conducted postdoctoral research with George Daley at BCH on human disease modeling using patient-derived iPSCs. He is currently Associate Professor of Pediatrics at HMS and Co-Program Leader for the SCT Center at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s, Susan B. Shurin Chair in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and Principal Faculty member of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Harvard Initiative for RNA Medicine. Suneet serves as attending physician on the hematopoietic stem cell transplant service at BCH, Director of the BCH Translational Research Program, associate director of the BCH H/O fellowship program, and chair of the medical advisory board of the patient advocacy group Team Telomere.
