2026 CRE Expert Webinar Series on Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes – Expert Webinar 3

Diamond-Blackfan Anaemia: Understanding Disease Mechanisms and the Therapeutic Action of Glucocorticoids

The Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Bone Marrow Biology is proud to present the third Expert Webinar of our 2026 series for our scientific and clinical community featuring guest speaker, Dr Deena Iskander, Medical Research Council Clinician-Scientist Fellow at Imperial College London.

Date: Thursday 17 September 2026
Time: 4.30 – 5.30 pm AEST
Location: Online via Zoom

Dr Iskander is a clinician-scientist specialising in inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes, with a particular focus on Diamond-Blackfan anaemia. Her research investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying this rare ribosomopathy and aims to understand how these insights can inform the development of improved therapies.

Dr Iskander is also an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Haematology at St Mary’s Hospital, London, where she co-leads a national inherited bone marrow failure service supporting 350 children and adults before and after bone marrow transplantation. Her research is conducted in close partnership with patients and families, including through Diamond Blackfan Anaemia Syndrome UK and the DBA Foundation.

In this webinar, Dr Iskander will explore the biological mechanisms of Diamond-Blackfan anaemia and discuss the therapeutic action of glucocorticoids. Drawing on her clinical and research expertise, she will highlight how advances in molecular biology are improving understanding of disease pathogenesis and shaping future approaches to treatment.

The 45 minute presentation will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A session.

This session is suitable for clinicians, researchers, scientists, allied health professionals and students working in Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.

Registration is free but essential. The Zoom access link will be sent to registered attendees prior to the webinar.
