THE ART OF FOOTBALL
A UNIQUE AND UNEXPECTED EXHIBITION IN MELBOURNE
Art of Football Commitee:
Lewis Pitchford, Xavier Davies, Alastair Evans, Hugh Evans, Maryclare Los, Nicky Long, Sarah Fitton, Natasha Levy and Alex Riewoldt
From June 28th to July 8th 2017 eleven top AFL players joined eleven of Australia’s leading contemporary artists to
bare their souls and spirits in an unexpected contemporary art exhibition ‘The Art of Football’.
Displayed at the NAB building in Docklands before being auctioned by the players’ respective clubs, ‘The Art of Football’ was the idea of surf coast designer Xavier Davies, a good friend of Nick’s, who wanted to do something to honour the memory of Maddie Riewoldt, as well as creating an opportunity to raise money for Maddie’s Vision to help fund research and find a cure for BMFS.
The result was an amazing $15,230 raised through the auction of the footballs, but more amazing were the footballs themselves: a series of hand-painted, one-off artworks that each represent the spirit that Maddie displayed in her fight against Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome (BMFS).
On behalf of the Riewoldt family we are pleased to present the 2017 ‘Art of Football’ and to thank each of the footballers and artists involved for their time and inspiration to remind us to #FightLikeMaddie.
