In 2016, over $20,000 was raised from sales of the first limited edition release of the purple Maddie Chuck which was available in adult sizes only. After the success of 2016, Converse have committed to continuing the partnership in 2017 and this year will release the range in both adults and kids sizing.
“We have seen first hand the wave of support that Australian families have put behind Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision. We don’t want any child ever have to go through what Maddie went through. The support of Converse and their increased commitment to now include sizes everyone in the family can wear is really symbolic,” said Maddie’s Vision director of marketing and communications, Alex Riewoldt. The entire Riewoldt family was excited by the extension of sizes to include all of the family. Recently married, Alex and his wife Roxy are expecting their first child in June 2017.
“To have Maddie’s fight symbolised on what is perhaps the most iconic and recognisable sneaker in the world and that my children will wear this sneaker, creates a pinch yourself moment. Simply overwhelming” he said.
“Purple represents the humour and spirit with which Maddie fought her battle – it became her favourite color during her fight. It represents the cytotoxic waste containers for the treatments that were used to treat her disease, it signified getting better and having hope.
“And of course, family was everything to Maddie. To think that all members of Australian families can show their support through this symbolic partnership would mean so much to her.”
