maddie's shield 2016

Two of Victorian Premier Cricket’s top women teams will go head-to-head in the league’s first ever Twenty-20 (T20) clash to be held under lights at Toorak Park on 14 December, 2016, in support of Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision (Maddie’s Vision).

The whole community is invited to show their support as rivals Prahran and Box Hill take to the field to raise funds for Maddie’s Vision. One hundred per cent of proceeds from entry fees paid on the evening will go towards life changing research into new treatments for Bone Marrow Failure.

Maddie’s Vision Deputy Chairman, Nick Riewoldt said the event will be a great way to support women in sport and celebrate his late sister’s legacy.

“Maddie was really passionate about women in sport, so supporting grass roots and pathway participation in sport is an integral part of what we do at Maddie’s Vision,” he said.

“This match is just the beginning of us working together with women in cricket.”

The event has attracted the support of a stellar line up of Australian sporting talent, who will take part both on and off the field.

Players from Victoria and the Melbourne Stars are well represented in both competing teams, while up to three hundred players from the All Girls Cricket Competition, will take to the field prior to the game. The line up includes some of Australian cricket’s best-known names, like the Southern Stars Captain and world’s number one female batter, Meg Lanning; Melbourne Stars spinner and Maddie’s Vision ambassador, Alana King; and Victorian Spirit batter Jess Cameron, who was recently drafted to Collingwood in the newly formed NAB AFL Women’s competition.

AFL players, including representatives from the newly formed AFL Women’s teams, will also be in attendance, while MC Mel Jones will interview the Riewoldt family and players from the competing teams.

This family event will include kids’ entertainment and giveaways, and Channel 10 will be doing a live cross.

“We wanted to create an event to showcase elite women’s cricket, and bring the community together in what will be a great family night out. It is also a wonderful opportunity to support Maddie’s Vision and their fundraising efforts to help find a cure for Bone Marrow Failure”, said John Salter, President of Prahran Cricket Club.

“We have brought together a number of important stakeholders to make this event a success and we are grateful to all the sponsors that have come on board to support it. We are really excited about the elite standard of cricket the crowd will see on the evening.”

Food, soft drinks and alcohol will be available for purchase. There’s no need to book, just bring along a purple $5 note to support Bone Marrow Failure research, and wear a touch of purple.
