It’s time for Maddie’s Match #7, kicking off at 3.20pm on Sunday 3 April.
The Match honours Maddie Riewoldt who was just 26 years old when she died of complications of a Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome called Aplastic Anaemia.
Maddie was a passionate Saints supporter and loved nothing more than to watch her big brother Nick and cousin Jack fighting it out on the footy oval.
So every year, St Kilda hosts Maddie’s Match in a classic St Kilda v Richmond game. To raise awareness of Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes as we #FightLikeMaddie to find new treatments and cures.
The first Maddie’s Match in 2015 funded our very first medical research project. Since then, with the support of the incredible, passionate football community, we’ve raised over $10m and funded 31 cutting-edge medical research projects.
This year, we’re raising money to fund the very first gene therapy clinical trial for Australian patients with inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes. Put simply, this research is about medical breakthroughs.
We won’t stop until all young Australians diagnosed with Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes get to live long, healthy, happy lives.
