We are a small
group who work together to rescue and re-home Maremma in need. We
liaise with shelters, pounds, internet groups & the wider rescue
network. We are all volunteers and our group is not for
profit.
Maremma Rescue
- Vic, has been operative since 2002, is now jointly co-ordinated by Jill
Stone (Emerald), & Jodie Cawood (Regional Vic), with dedicated foster carers, including
Shani (Gippsland), Jodie (Northern Vic), Kristeen (Yellingbo),
Allison & Jim (Queenscliffe), Suzie (Lilydale), as well
as those who contribute via other roles.
We aim to
raise awareness of why Maremma come into the rescue system, and to
curb unnecessary abuse and euthanasia caused by lack of
understanding of the breed.
We offer
support and advice to anyone who adopts a Maremma, as well to those
who already own one or would like to own one in the
future.
We do not
adopt the first available dog to the first person who applies to
adopt. We aim to make the best possible match between dog and
owner/situation, by matching the dog's needs, personality &
background, with that of the potential adoptive home. Our
application process involves detailed questions & usually
includes a home visit. We also maintain a waiting list for people
wanting to adopt a Maremma.
We have
written adoption agreements and we ask an adoption donation to our
Rescue Fund to cover the costs of the dogs we assist.
We are not a
registered organization, nor do we claim to be dog professionals,
however we are experienced with this breed and understand the
Maremma exceptionally well. All our rescue efforts are carried out
in good faith, with good will, within responsible ethical
standards.
